Homeschool Family FAQs

Answers About Funding, Registration, and What Comes Next

We know this is new — national homeschool funding and a unified marketplace are ideas that take time to understand. The goal of Well Planned Homeschooling is to make every step clear and trustworthy for families like yours.

Here, you’ll find straightforward answers about how the process works, when funding becomes available, and how to get involved in the movement. As new states adopt the ECCA law and the marketplace expands, we’ll continue updating these FAQs so you always have the latest information and next steps.

Getting Started with Well Planned Homeschooling

What is Well Planned Homeschooling?

Well Planned Homeschooling is the first national marketplace designed to connect homeschool families with the resources, curriculum, and funding opportunities created by the 2025 Education Choice for Children Act (ECCA). Built by homeschoolers, for homeschoolers, it provides a trusted space where families can find approved vendors, manage scholarship funds, and stay informed about new opportunities as states adopt the law.

How does homeschool funding work under the ECCA law?

The ECCA law allows U.S. taxpayers to redirect a portion of their federal tax liability—not their income, but their tax bill—toward education scholarships through certified Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs). These funds are then distributed to families as scholarships that can be used to purchase approved homeschool resources, curriculum, and educational services through marketplaces like Well Planned Homeschooling.

Who can register right now?

Any homeschool family across the United States can register now. Registration ensures your family is among the first to receive updates as states adopt the new funding law and as the marketplace opens. You’ll also receive early access to resources, readiness guides, and communication tools to help you understand how to use scholarships once available.

Does registering cost anything?

No — registering your family is completely free. This early step simply allows you to stay connected and informed as funding, marketplace access, and state-by-state adoption expand. There are no fees, no contracts, and no obligations attached to registration.

Is this a scholarship application?

No. Registration with Well Planned Homeschooling is not a scholarship application. It’s a way to stay informed and ready. Once your state approves SGO participation, you’ll receive instructions and timelines for how to apply for scholarships directly through approved organizations. Our goal is to ensure every homeschool family understands how to access these opportunities as they become available.

Understanding Funding & Eligibility

When will scholarships be available?

Scholarships will begin flowing to families once each state adopts the federal ECCA law and authorizes Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) to collect and distribute funds. Throughout 2026, states will begin approving participation and building infrastructure. By early 2027, Well Planned Homeschooling expects families in the first approved states to receive scholarships and begin using them directly in the marketplace.

Which states are currently adopting the ECCA law?

Each state must pass legislation to participate in the federal program. Some states have already begun this process, while others are preparing bills for upcoming sessions. Well Planned Homeschooling tracks adoption closely and will provide state-by-state updates on the marketplace site so families know when registration and scholarship applications are open in their area.

Who can contribute to homeschool funding?

Any individual U.S. taxpayer — not just parents — can redirect a portion of their personal federal tax liability toward education scholarships through an approved SGO. This includes grandparents, relatives, friends, and small business owners contributing through their personal taxes, not their business entities.

It’s not a donation or a deduction — it’s a redirection of taxes already owed — turning federal dollars into direct educational support for homeschool families.

Can I direct my donation to a specific homeschool student or family?

No. Donations made through the Education Choice for Children Act (ECCA) must go through approved Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) and cannot be designated for individual students or families. Each state’s SGO distributes funds according to its own approved scholarship guidelines, ensuring fairness, compliance, and transparency.

When you give, your redirected tax dollars stay within your state, helping homeschool families where you live. Every contribution supports the broader homeschool community — making education funding possible for families who might not otherwise have access.

Will all homeschool families qualify for funding?

Not automatically — the ECCA sets eligibility criteria that every family must meet. Based on the current proposals:

  • Household income must be at or below 300% of the area median income (AMI).

  • Students must meet basic public school eligibility (i.e. be eligible to enroll in public K–12).

  • Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) must prioritize awarding scholarships to prior-year students and siblings of current scholarship recipients.

  • Each state may also impose additional rules when opting in.

So while the law aims for broad access, only families who satisfy those thresholds will qualify. Once your state is active, the marketplace will guide you through the exact qualification steps.

How will I know when my state is approved?

When your state adopts the ECCA law and authorizes SGO participation, we’ll notify registered families directly by email. You’ll receive updates about timelines, approved SGOs, and instructions on how to connect your scholarship to your family account.

Using the Marketplace

What is the Well Planned Homeschooling Marketplace?

The Well Planned Homeschooling Marketplace is a national platform built to connect families, vendors, and Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) in one trusted, unified system. It serves as the central hub where any approved SGO can direct scholarship funds to eligible homeschool students, streamlining both fundraising and spending through verified educational channels.

This marketplace does more than process funds — it empowers choice. Families can shop freely from a wide selection of approved curriculum, courses, supplies, and enrichment resources from vetted vendors. Using Neurometrics™, our AI-powered matching system, families receive personalized guidance to discover curriculum and learning tools aligned with each student’s needs — all without requiring any specific program or publisher to be purchased.

At its core, the Marketplace is the bridge between funding and freedom — a secure, transparent ecosystem that channels dollars to education while maintaining family autonomy and academic diversity.

How will I use scholarships to purchase curriculum or resources?

Once your state adopts the ECCA law and scholarships are available, you’ll connect your student’s scholarship account to the Well Planned Homeschooling Marketplace. From there, you can browse approved vendors, view qualifying products, and make purchases directly using scholarship funds — just like a digital wallet for education. Every transaction stays compliant with federal and state guidelines, so you can shop confidently.

What kinds of products and services will be available?

Families will find a wide range of homeschool resources — from core curriculum in math, language arts, science, and history to electives, enrichment kits, digital courses, and educational subscriptions. You’ll also discover live and recorded classes, parent tools, and hands-on materials from both well-known publishers and innovative new vendors.

What makes this marketplace different from existing homeschool stores?

Unlike traditional homeschool retailers, the Well Planned Homeschooling Marketplace is directly integrated with the national funding system created by the ECCA law. That means families can use scholarship dollars securely and vendors can participate with confidence, knowing compliance standards are already met. It’s not just a store — it’s an ecosystem built to support homeschool families for generations to come.

Is my personal information secure?

Yes. The marketplace uses industry-standard encryption, verified payment gateways, and strict privacy protections. We never sell or share your personal information, and all scholarship transactions are processed through secure, audited systems. Your trust and privacy are our highest priorities.

Getting Involved

How can I help spread the word?

Start by sharing this opportunity with your friends, family, and local homeschool network. Whether it’s a post in your Facebook group, a quick mention at co-op, or a conversation at church, every personal share helps another family learn that they can fund homeschooling through redirected tax dollars — at no cost to them.

Who needs to know about this new opportunity?

Everyone who believes in educational freedom. That includes parents, grandparents, churches, community leaders, and even friends who value family-directed learning. Many taxpayers don’t yet realize they can redirect a portion of their personal federal taxes—at no personal cost—to fund homeschool scholarships. Business owners can participate too, as individuals, but businesses themselves cannot contribute. By sharing this opportunity in your homeschool circles, churches, and communities, you help unlock funding that makes homeschooling possible for families nationwide.

Can I volunteer or represent Well Planned Homeschooling in my community?

Yes! We’re building a network of local ambassadors who will help share updates, host small informational gatherings, and connect with families interested in joining. You don’t need special training — just a heart for homeschooling and a willingness to help others learn. Once you register, you’ll receive details about joining as a volunteer or ambassador.

What kind of updates will I receive after registering?

You’ll receive exclusive updates as new states adopt the law and as the homeschool marketplace expands. Expect insights on funding timelines, family readiness tools, and early access to new homeschool resources — all designed to keep you informed and equipped to share accurate information with others.

How else can I support the movement?

There are three powerful ways to make an impact — even before scholarships go live:

Spread the Word – Help us reach more families and communities by sharing updates, joining local conversations, and introducing Well Planned Homeschooling to your co-ops, churches, and homeschool networks.

Partner Through Your Business or Platform – While businesses themselves can’t contribute tax funds, owners and leaders can help by promoting the opportunity through newsletters, podcasts, events, or sponsorships that raise awareness nationwide.

Support Awareness Efforts – We’re building outreach campaigns to educate families about their options under the Education Choice for Children Act. You can help fund these efforts through partnerships or by sponsoring awareness materials that reach more families.

If you’d like to explore any of these options, simply mention your interest when registering or reach out through the contact page. Together, we can grow a national movement for educational freedom.
